How to Claim Your Business on Google

How to Claim Your Business on Google

As the years go on, the internet becomes more and more important. This is no different for businesses; most customers these days are finding businesses, products and services online. This is why it is important for your business to be claimed on Google. This will allow you to optimize your listing and keep the information accurate and up-to-date.

Google My Business

Google My Business is a free, online dashboard provided by Google that allows business owners to manage their business information across various Google services. Within this dashboard is where you can create, claim, and manage Google business listings. For business owners that have previously used Google Places for Business, Google Local or Google+ Pages, your account should already be upgraded to the Google My Business dashboard. You shouldn’t have to take any additional steps to claim your business.

Claiming Your Business

For new businesses or those that haven’t previously used Google’s other business services, you will have to claim your business via the Google My Business dashboard. In order to do this, you must have an active Google account or you can create one before starting.

  • Step 1: Using your internet browser, navigate to https://www.google.com/business/ and sign in to your existing account or create one like previously mentioned.
  • Step 2: Once you have logged in you will be greeted with a prompt to enter your business information. Accurately input all of your business information and make sure it matches the format found on your website or other business listings.
  • Step 3: After your business information has been input, you will have to verify your business with Google. This is to verify that the business you are trying to claim is in fact yours. The verification code you need will be mailed to the business address with 1-2 weeks.
  • Step 4: You’ve received your Google verification code! Now it is time to navigate back to https://www.google.com/business/ and verify your business. Once your verification code is inputted, you can start managing and updating the information on your Google business listing.
