How to Claim Your practice on Google

As the years go on, the internet becomes more and more important. This is no different for practices; most patients these days are finding practices, products and services online. This is why it is important for your practice to be claimed on Google. This will allow you to optimize your listing and keep the information accurate and up-to-date.

Google My practice

Google My practice is a free, online dashboard provided by Google that allows practice owners to manage their practice information across various Google services. Within this dashboard is where you can create, claim, and manage Google practice listings. For practice owners that have previously used Google Places for practice, Google Local or Google+ Pages, your account should already be upgraded to the Google My practice dashboard. You shouldn’t have to take any additional steps to claim your practice.

Claiming Your practice

For new practices or those that haven’t previously used Google’s other practice services, you will have to claim your practice via the Google My practice dashboard. In order to do this, you must have an active Google account or you can create one before starting.

  • Step 1: Using your internet browser, navigate to https://www.google.com/business/ and sign in to your existing account or create one like previously mentioned.
  • Step 2: Once you have logged in you will be greeted with a prompt to enter your practice information. Accurately input all of your practice information and make sure it matches the format found on your website or other practice listings.
  • Step 3: After your practice information has been input, you will have to verify your practice with Google. This is to verify that the practice you are trying to claim is in fact yours. The verification code you need will be mailed to the practice address with 1-2 weeks.
  • Step 4: You’ve received your Google verification code! Now it is time to navigate back to https://www.google.com/business/ and verify your practice. Once your verification code is inputted, you can start managing and updating the information on your Google practice listing.
